I noticed yesterday that this Book Review Blog has now received a total of 5,000 views. I am amazed and humbled by the amount of interest shown. Thank you all for taking the time to have a look at my thoughts. I hope you have enjoyed them and found them insightful.
Apparently over a thousand of you are from Hong Kong, almost 800 from the USA, but my own home country, the UK, trails in a poor 3rd with under 700. Come on you Brits, get reading!
This blog has been ongoing since 2014 and comprises a total of 28 reviews. I hope you will find it helpful to trail back through some of the older ones as well as the latest offerings. During those eleven years of blogging I have retired (2022) and found more time for reading books and reviewing them, which has been great! I have also joined a book club and owe many insights to our discussions, so thank you Dorking Readers.
I write these posts as a Christian who takes a keen interest in literature, the subject of my degree from Cambridge. Some of the books reviewed are indeed about living the Christian life and reflecting on it. Many are fiction, some are classics, or in my opinion deserve to be, still others works of history or cosmology or politics. Some may have been written by people who profess Christianity and others most definitely not. My aim is not at all to build an echo chamber to reinforce my own beliefs but to engage passionately with the culture and beliefs of those around me while appraising and evaluating what they have to say to me and to our amazingly complex culture. I hope to listen and learn, to be curious, to explore, to enjoy, but also to be faithful to Christ in my reflections on His people and His world.
Finally, I also like to write poems and have been publishing them in another blog since May 2023. If you have enjoyed my thoughts on the writings of others, perhaps you might like to take a look at what I have to say for myself? If so, please see SoundOfManyWaters, my poems blog, which you can find on https://colingibsonpoems.blogspot.com/
